Frequently asked questions

Word of WARNING about Local Printers

Unfortunately, not all local printers are the same. I've had issues with images I have had printed out at both OfficeMax & FedEx Kinko's.

OfficeMax's technician explained they were having issues with their best printer and admitted the printing was not acceptable. The images came out splotchy and didn't have the detail nor the refinement of the digital image. Kinko's had similar problems and marks from the print "roller" that repeated along the image. Again, I was told the printer may need to be cleaned or serviced.

When great images (crisp and detailed - in accord with the artist style) print out poorly, that's a PRINTER PROBLEM, not a problem with the image.

Insist on great quality prints and refuse unacceptable ones!

How big or small can I print my digital image?

Every digital image in my shop is offered as a HIGH QUALITY, 300 dpi JPEG file (which provides excellent image resolution when printing). Each listing clearly specifies the image size offered within the details section. Based on popularity and demand, many of my digital art images are offered in multiple sizes within the same listing.

To guarantee the best quality, you should always print an image at its original size.

You can print an image at smaller sizes or a SLIGHTLY larger size (i.e.; print an 8x10 inch image as an 11x14 inch image) without too much loss of detail, but please be aware that I CANNOT guarantee the quality of the your print if you do. The larger you print beyond the original size, the larger the loss of image quality.

Since image quality is lost when I resize an image on my own, can you resize it for me so I get the best quality image to print?

It depends. Some images can be resized without loss of quality while others cannot, depending on the nature of the original artwork.

Some images should not be resized because the change in size also changes the scale of the image, leaving too much or too little space on either the side or top/bottom margins. Often the finished product is not what was envisioned.

Frequently, to resize an image really requires a change in its layout to keep the image's aesthetic appeal. (This can take considerable amount of time and work ⇒ customization, which I am currently unavailable to offer).

Since each digital art image is different, please inquire prior to buying to see if I can resize an image. If so, there will be a resizing fee.

Do I need a special printer, ink, paper or embellishments to properly print out glitter images or metallic foil images??

Glitter and metallic foil art are special effects that are created digitally, using my graphic design software.

Since they are special effects that create "faux" glitter and metallic foil, no special products are needed to print out these images (you don't need glitter, foil, metallic ink, etc.)

Instead, you just need a high quality COLOR printer (even with silver glitter and foil effects) and WHITE heavy weight paper (like thick card stock) in order to print out a high quality print. I suggest you use glossy or pearlescent paper for a shimmery effect.

My recommendation is to use a professional printing service (either locally or online) to print out your digital image if you're unsure whether your home printer can print quality images.

Where do I go to print my image?

You can print:

(1) At home (if you have a high quality COLOR printer),

(2) Locally at a print shop or kiosk (for example, Walgreens, Fed Ex [formerly known as Kinko's], Walmart, OfficeMax, CVS, etc.) or an independently owned professional print shop in your area,

(3) Using an online printing service (for example, Walgreens.com, Shutterfly.com, Canvashq.com [for canvas prints], Persnicketyprints.com, Snapfish, etc.).

Part of your consideration is the kind of paper medium you would like to use. Some websites print on glossy photo paper, matte card stock or canvas. Please visit the websites you are considering and read the details as to what they offer and call their customer service department for recommendations or clarification.

What kind of paper should I use to print?

You should always use WHITE paper to get a print that accurately matches your image.

For a MATTE finish, I’d recommend using heavy weight art paper, high quality digital paper, or cotton paper (no shine/reflective quality). Good choice for watercolor art, chalkboard art or any art images in which a shine would be undesirable.

If you choose to use card stock, please be aware that printing on inexpensive card stock can result in a very dulled appearance of the best looking digital image - so use the highest quality card stock possible for your print(s).

For a GLOSS finish, I’d recommend using a pearlescent or photo paper (sheen enhances color vibrancy & reflective effect). Good choice for faux glitter or metallic foil digital effects.

Can I print my image on a wrap-around canvas print?

It depends on the image and your goals.

If you like the idea of the image wrapping around either the sides and/or top bottom of your canvas print, this is a good option. If you like the idea of the imagery in front only (i.e.; typography image) and a solid border around the sides of the canvas print (instead of purchasing a frame), this is a good option.

However, often times, margins need to be altered to accommodate a canvas print, depending on your specific goals. For example, if you want the wrap-around sides to exactly match the background color of the artwork but only want the design of the artwork in front.

If so, please contact me prior to purchasing to find out whether an image can be altered & the cost (there is a resizing fee).

Can I get a return an item and get a refund?

Due to the nature of digital products (which are impossible to return), NO REFUNDS are given once they have been downloaded or delivered via email to the customer.

However, if the customer has NOT downloaded any files and contacts me within 30 days of purchase to request a refund for his/her order, I am happy to fully refund and cancel the buyer's purchase order.

I do my very best to clearly describe the digital nature of my products, within the title, the listing details and the preview images. Please read the product listing carefully so you understand what you are purchasing.

I am happy to answer any questions you have prior to your purchase so that you can make an informed choice and have confidence in buying!

Can I get a partial refund if I have only downloaded some of the digital products I purchased?

Unfortunately, once a customer downloads at least one digital product when they have purchased multiple items within an order, no partial refunds can be given since the order can no longer be canceled and the buyer will continue to have access to every digital item purchased.

Are your PDF files editable?

No, all of my PDF files have been flattened so they are not editable. They have been saved in this format for printing purposes only.
